Do You Have a Decent First Aid Kit?

by Rob on September 26, 2010 · 16 comments

Many families don’t even have a decent first aid kit in their house. Here are the top 2 sellers on Amazon, the first is more inclusive of outdoor injury items but both are a good starting point.

#1 Seller…

# 2 seller…

We will talk more about medical supplies in later posts, but a decent First Aid Kit is a must…

And if you need a book on basic First Aid, this one is a good start…

You should also have a First Aid Kit in each of your cars… (this link is for a TWO-PACK):

And think about taking a First Aid training course in your local area. You may not have easy access to doctors or a hospital in a real emergency and you might save the life of someone you love with a little preparation…

Good advice, as usual.

I had the opportunity to be trained as a First Aider at my last company, and I turned it down, which I regret now, of course.

I’m ashamed to admit I don’t have a first aid kit laying around the house.

Yes I do. Based on your earlier posts I purchased two comprehensive First Aid kits, one for the house and one for the car. They have already proved handy, especially the one in the car.

Another great post with very important information. Might I also suggest that everyone take a course in CPR and keep a mask with a rescuer safety valve in the car and at home. You never know when you might have to try to save a life!

Rob, A good first aid kit would have to be the building block of any survival kit.
Thanks for the reminder

I just checked my first aid kit. I am going to need to refresh and update it. The gauze was turning yellow.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have to admit I always end up buying the little dinky ones you see in the store. One in the car, one in the softball bag… we need a good one and I love the book to go along with it!

Hi Survival Rob,

What simple and excellent reminders for surviving and doing well in an emergency situation. Supplying your car in a simple fashion and keeping you and your loved ones supplied is just great advice.

The first aid book is great. I know there are first aid classes around. Are there any DVD courses demonstrating this which you recommend?

Great reminder on the first aid kits for the house and for the car.
I’ve been trained as a first responder for over 20 years and even I had forgotten to have one in my car.

I know CPR but I don’t have a decent first aid kit in my house. I have a hodge-podge kit. I have kit in my car, though.

Great recommendation! This is one area where we are pretty prepared, with kits in the cars and two in the house. The Total Resources is a great kit for camping.
